Due to the volume of Building Permit applications submitted in recent months, our current Plan Review time is running longer than usual.  Our goal remains to review plans as quickly as possible, but we are unable to provide estimates at this time.



  • Our office is closed to the public until further notice

  • We ARE accepting all Building Permit Applications, which can currently be submitted through regular delivery services only - USPS (mail), UPS, FedEx, etc.

    • Many Printable Application Packets are available online here; contact our office for structures not listed.

    • An online submittal process for new site built single family residences only is available under certain conditions; see below.

    Note that while we are currently under the newly identified Phase 1 "Healthy Washington - Roadmap to Recovery" as of January 11th, the job site requirements remain those as listed in the Previously labeled "Phase 2 Construction COVID-19 Job Site Requirements"

  • Short-term Rentals/Transient-use: Additional requirements apply to residences that are used for short-term rental or transient use.  Please contact our office for details.




Online Submittal Process Available Only for NEW Site-Built Single Family Residences

(manufactured homes, additions, remodels, modular homes and other applications cannot be submitted online at this time)


Step 1:


Before you begin an online submission and to avoid cancellation, be sure to read, understand and adhere to all submittal requirements detailed in Step 2 below 


Step 2:


Make sure you meet all of the following online submittal requirements:

  • Your site-built single family residence application must meet all of the requirements to be submitted online

  • Only NEW Single Family Residences are currently available for online submittal

  • No additions, remodels, modular homes, manufactured homes or non-residential applications will be accepted at this time

  • All required forms, documents and plans must be uploaded at the time of online submittal, within 24 hours of application creation, so please see the SFR application packet for requirements to be sure you have a complete application packet and plans ready for submittal.  Single Family Residence information is found here. Missing documentation or information will result in your application being cancelled.

  • Document format and naming convention: All required submittals MUST be provided in the correct format to be accepted (PDFs), including correct file Names; please read the Plans and Documents Standards & Requirements here.

  • A deposit of $500 will be required for the application to be accepted, with an additional 2.5% convenience fee to the Card processing company. (Deposit waived during Office Closure)

  • After approval and issuance, you will be responsible to print all approved documents and plans in color and to have them available on the project site.  Many of these documents will need to be printed 24" x 36" in size.

Welcome to the Grant County Building Department

Grant County is committed to ensuring that our built environment is regulated to the extent that provides the requirements to safeguard the public safety, health and general welfare in our homes, schools, places of worship, public and private structures, agricultural buildings and a variety of other structures

On a daily basis we all have a reasonable expectation that the structures we live or work in or use for shopping, entertainment, worship or other purposes, meet minimum standards structurally, for fire/life safety, for health and comfort.  The majority of the time this expectation is subconscious, we simply expect that we can enter and exit buildings safely, that smoke detection and automatic sprinklers are installed and operable where required, and that buildings won't just collapse around us.

To that end, the Grant County Building Department enforces the provisions of RCW 19.27, the Washington St. Building Code and employs International Code Council certified building inspectors and plans examiners to ensure that construction documents are reviewed and demonstrate conformance with the code, that permits are issued and inspections are conducted throughout the various phases of construction so that the end result is to provide buildings that may be used safely and securely by current and future generations.

The Building Department's function is to implement and enforce regulations relating to the design, construction, use and occupancy of buildings and structures located within this jurisdiction, along with the plumbing and mechanical associated with those structures.

Special Note


Requirements for applying, permitting, construction and inspections are subject to change at any time based on local, state and federal law or policy, building code cycles and such.  What was required or allowed last year may be different next year.


All information provided to you with your application, permit and plans are important. Please be sure to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the information provided as you (the applicant) are responsible to meet all requirements.
