Grant County Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) is an all volunteer group. Calls in the county run an average of 70% water-related incidents, with underwater search and recovery operations often called for. The unit will usually have 10 to 12 divers with varying degrees of experience, but always several dive rescue specialists with special training in underwater search and recovery.

While the unit will take on any assignment that comes its way, we train to meet a variety of needs, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Dive rescue and recovery

  • Ice rescue

  • Technical rope rescue

  • Ground searches

  • ATV and 4x4 operations

  • Evidence searches, land and water

  • Electronic tracking (Project Lifesavers)

Unit Philosophy

As members of the Grant County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Unit, we offer out specialized skills and talents in service to our communities. While we are all volunteers, we accept the responsibility of performing our chosen duties in a professional manner, and to the best of our abilities at all times. Through dedication and training, we will operate as a team to carry out the often difficult but ever important roles we may be asked to perform. In this way, we will provide a necessary service to the citizens of Grant County and to those who choose to visit here. Dedication to our cause, teamwork, and pride in ourselves and our unit will ensure that we are successful.
