Code Enforcement for Grant County is now under the Grant County Sheriff's Office!


Grant County Sheriff's Office Code Enforcement Unit is a function of the county that enforces the building and land use regulations as set forth in Grant County Code within unincorporated areas of Grant County.


The Code Enforcement Unit will investigate complaints of unlawful or hazardous development and uses on private property.  Utility Deputies will respond to reported code violations associated with zoning, housing, building, shorelines and critical areas.  The Code Enforcement Unit workload is almost entirely driven by complaints of private citizens.  Utility Deputies do not proactively survey the county looking for violations.


If you, as a private citizen, need to report a code enforcement complaint to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, please ensure that the following information is true:

  • This is not an emergency situation

  • This incident occurred in Grant County, but not within the city limits of Moses Lake, Quincy, Ephrata, Soap Lake, Mattawa, Royal City, Warden, Electric City, George, Wilson Creek, Hartline, Marlin-Krupp, or Coulee City.

  • This incident did not occur on a State Route, Highway, or Freeway.

If you answered yes to all of the above questions, you are ready to file your report online,  Please make sure to turn off your pop-up blocking software before filing this report.



Upon completion of this report, you will:

  • See the words: "Your online code enforcement report has been submitted" showing that your report is complete.

  • Be able to save or print a copy of your report to keep for your records.

Please note:

  • All cases filed using the Citizen's Online Code Enforcement Reporting System will be reviewed.

  • Upon review, if further investigation of your case is needed, you may be contacted.

  • Be sure to include as much information as you can in your complaint, including names, addresses, dates of birth, etc.

If, as a property owner or tenant, you have been contacted by a Utility Deputy of the Code Enforcement Unit and received a warning notice due to a violation in any of the aforementioned areas, it is important to understand the Code Enforcement Process.  You should read the notice, and correct the violations as indicated.  If you need more time to complete the corrective actions, follow the contact information at the bottom of the notice.  The Code Enforcement Unit will work with you to achieve compliance. 


At the end of the specified time frame, a site visit will be conducted to determine compliance.  If compliance is achieved, the case will be closed.  If there are unresolved issues and no contact has been made, a Citation or Notice of Violation may be issued, monetary penalties may be imposed, and the violation may be abated.  Additionally, criminal charges may be filed.
